Department of Education reveals plans for 2020 academic year

The phasing-in will allow two weeks between Grades being admitted to school at a time.

The Department of Education and teacher unions had a meeting yesterday, 16 April to face their challenges amid the lockdown.

The South African Teachers Union gave feedback today, 17 April, on the approach to be implemented. The phasing-in will allow two weeks between Grades being admitted to school at a time.

According to the union, the situation is closely managed and monitored.

The next two Grades will follow after one or two weeks.

The approach is subject to how the school is coping with the management of the number of learners, the space and hygienic requirements relating to sanitising and protection.

The tentative dates are as follow:

Grade 12 and 7 – 6 May

Grade 11 and 6 – 20 May

Grade 10 and 5 – 3 June

Grade 9 and 4 – 17 June

Grade 8 and 3 – 1 July

Grade 2 and 1 – 8 July

and Grade Rs – 15 July
