Highveld Ridge SPCA to revamp kennels after the Covid-19 lockdown

The Highveld Ridge SPCA is asking their supporters and volunteers to help them by making some goodies and toys for their animals.

HIGHVELD – After the national lockdown, the Highveld Ridge Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will be revamping their kennels, beginning with the 10 cat kennels, and moving on to the 40 dog kennels and puppy-area thereafter.

New paint, flooring and toys will be added to each kennel.

Each kennel will also get a scratchpad against the wall for the kitties to enjoy.

“We are also adding a cattery for the cats where they will be able to play and have some fun and stretch their legs. This area will also be used for meet and greets for our cats and kittens.” said Ms Chanelle Oosthuizen.

The Highveld Ridge SPCA posted some ideas for creative DIY toys on their Facebook page which people can make at home.

Anything you have at home for these DIY toys can make such a huge difference for these animals.

“Some of the kennels are in need of restoration work. Volunteers can keep an eye on their Facebook page for dates as to when they can go and help out with the painting, flooring and so forth,” said Ms Oosthuizen.

The heart behind the Highveld SPCA is the volunteering staff who is still on duty every single day during the lockdown, taking care of the animals and being there for the ones in need.

The staff members are Ms Nonnie Sibanyoni, Mr Jabu Mathebula, Ms Grace Dlamini, Ms Ghandi Dlamini and Mr Thembinkosi Malinga.

The SPCA thanked their supporters who made and donated face masks for the volunteering staff.

“A huge thank you is also given for the soft toy donation towards our cat and puppy play areas coming soon and the special treats for their volunteers,” concluded Ms Oosthuizen.
