Sakhile trial-awaiting prisoners re-arrested – 3 still at large

Police arrested them in connection with charges ranging from dealing in drugs, housebreaking and robbery to rape.

The community of Standerton was informed towards the latter part of May about 11 trail-awaiting prisoners who escaped from the holding cells in Sakhile.

The Standerton Advertiser published several snippets on its website about the police work involved in re-apprehending the escapees. Altogether nine prisoners were still at large on 29 May.

The communications officer of the Sakhile Police, Const Duduzile Zwane, confirmed later that two were successfully re-arrested.

Police and community joined forces in the arrests and three suspects were back in custody.

Const Zwane said on Monday, 8 June that three escapees are still on the loose.
