eMBALENHLE – Residents have been complaining about the deterioration of service delivery in eMbalenhle.
The concerned residents are dissatisfied by the quality of services rendered by the Govan Mbeki Municipality to the community.
At the centre of their unhapiness is the issues of constant power cuts and waste collection.
They have accused the current administration of incompetence and maladministration.
This have resulted in numerous organisations mobilising against the municipality.
Some of these of organisations want to take the municipality to court and others are calling for the municipality to be placed under administration.
The GMM Joint Civil Movement is one of the organisations that is intending to take a stand against the municipality.
They have described themselves as a civil society organisation and community campaigners aligned to bring into account those in defiance of the mandatory prescript of the South African Constitution and other democratic processes.
Mr Vusi Sibeko, secretary for GMM Joint Civil Movement, said the movement stands against the corrupt use of the country’s resources and the eradication of obstructive, arbitrary, discriminatory, bureaucratic, unjustifiable laws and constraints, for the creation of a free, non-racial, non-sexist, enabling environment to be enjoyed by all who live in South Africa.
He said the movement is calling for the municipality to be placed under administration.
“We are calling on residents to join us by signing a petition which will help us to take the municipality to court.
“We have so many problems in the area, including electricity problems, refuse collection, potholes and this has resulted in many violent service delivery protests.
“We want to do things differently.”
He said they need at least 10 000 signatures for them to be able to take the matter further. Ms Thandi Ngxonono, executive mayor, has called on Mr Felani Mndebele, municipal manager, and his administration to intensify service delivery to everyone.
“We want to see the consistent collection of refuse removal in our communities. The failure to collect refuse is unacceptable and must be avoided at all times.”
