Marnu (6) undergoes chemo for second time
Marnu’s chemo and radiation treatment began on 31 August.
SECUNDA – Just when six-year-old Marnu Prinsloo’s family thought their little hero’s fight was over and that there will be no more chemotherapy, hospitals, nurses and doctors, besides the routine visits, all changed when Marnu had a relapse on 25 August.
Marnu was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia on 20 July 2017 and had completed his chemo treatment on 14 July, however he had a setback in his central nervous system (CNS) and is currently undergoing chemo and radiation therapy at the Steve Biko Hospital in Pretoria.
There is also a possibility that Marnu may also need a bone-marrow transplant.
His sister Mariné (3) had undergone tests to see if she may be a match. Should she not be, the search will continue for other possible matches.
“It has been tough, but we are keeping up,” said Marnu’s mother, Ms Annezell Janse van Rensburg.

“I am just praying that his body will be able to handle the chemo this time around.
“He is only six, he wants to play, he wants to go to school, he just wants a normal life. However, we don’t know what God’s plans are for him, we just have to keep on fighting this, said Ms Janse van Rensburg.
A Facebook group was opened when Marnu’s chemo journey began in 2017 “Marnu Prinsloo – Fighting the Big “C”.
Here his mom keeps daily updates on Marnu’s treatment.
In her latest update she said: “Today I am sitting with my Marnu… I stare at him as he lays and talks to me. Like usual he is his merry and friendly self. He comes up with all kinds of things. He knows he has to stay in hospital to get better and for sure knows he will be healed through Jesus.
“He has adapted so fast, it is actually shocking but heart sore at the same time. He listens and does everything that is expected of him by the doctors and nurses,” said Ms Janse van Rensburg.
Although Marnu is being treated at Steve Biko Hospital, Ms Janse van Rensburg needs to be close to him at all times and is incurring daily costs of self service which is very expensive.
