Residents queue and sleep outside Ermelo Traffic Department

Some residents sought alternatives by vising other towns, but are now being turned away and get referred back to their respective town’s licensing offices.

Residents of Ermelo have recently expressed their dissatisfaction over alleged poor service delivery at the local traffic department.

The Highvelder received many complaints about the licensing offices, including the times they are operational as well as the limited number of people they help daily.

Some residents are now queuing and some sleeping outside the offices the night before they open to ensure they are helped the next morning.

The Highvelder met up with some of these residents. One woman said that she had to arrange with family members to look after her two boys at home while she slept in front of the offices.

Residents claim they are forced to do so, because the employees will without warning, tell them that they cannot help them anymore.

Some residents sought alternatives by vising other towns, but are now being turned away and get referred back to their respective town’s licensing offices.

A resident staying on a farm about 60km from Ermelo added that she had to return to the license offices about 11 times to renew her license.

“Each time I was turned away there was a different excuse as to why they could not help me.”

The Highvelder send enquiries to Msukaligwa Municipality, and Mr Mandla Zwane admitted that the licensing offices only assist a limited number of residents daily, but blamed it on the regulations of the lockdown.

He added that the municipality is waiting for the new regulations after the president announced recently that the country would be moving to level 1 of the lockdown.

“Resident, for their own safety are discouraged to stand outside the offices throughout the night as the offices only open at 7.30am.”
