Scammers take man’s phone in Secunda

The second approaching man called to the first, but to no avail, so he snatched up the money and offered to split the spoils with the victim.

SECUNDA – A man was robbed of his cell phone in the Secunda CBD on 8 October.

According to the police, the man was walking at the back of Eastside Spar when he noticed two men approaching. One was ahead of the other and talking on his cell phone.

As the first man passed the victim, he dropped something that appeared to be money.

The second approaching man called to the first, but to no avail, so he snatched up the money and offered to split the spoils with the victim.

Just then the first man appeared and demanded his money while the second man denied being in possession thereof.

The first man then suggested they go to look at the CCTV footage at the shop’s security, but before the three could reach the store, the one demanded to view the complainant’s phone.

As soon as he took hold of the phone, both culprits ran off.

Capt Gerhard Elmes, spokesman for the Secunda Police, warned pedestrians to be vigilant and not to fall for such scams.
