Annah Moyane from Secunda helps people who live with albinism

The lack of melanin means people with albinism are highly vulnerable to skin cancer.

SECUNDA – Ms Annah Moyane is committed to helping improve the lives of people living with albinism.

She recently donated about 45 skincare products to people living with albinism in the Govan Mbeki municipal area.

Each person received a hamper valued at R450 containing lip balm, body lotion, sunscreen, foam, body wash, after-sun cream, facial cream, and perfume.

She said this was her way of standing in solidarity with people with albinism through their challenges.

“I have a child living with albinism and I know the challenges they face.

“I recently met Evon Zungaza who is living with albinism and I noticed that her skin was not 100 per cent healthy.

“I gave her some products I manufacture and her body responded well to it.

“I then decided to give the products to other people living with albinism and I am happy that my dream has come true.”

Ms Moyane said skin care is very important to people living with albinism.

She said because of the lack of pigments, the eyes and skin of people with albinism are very sensitive to light; therefore they need the right skin products.

She said if their skin is not taken care of properly it develops sores that could develop into skin cancer.

Ms Nhlanhla Mtshweni, Mr Allias Mahlangu , Mr Sipho Shabangu , Ms Annah Moyane, Ms Evon Zunguza, Ms Nomsa Mazibuko and MsSibongile Mtau during the hand over of the skin scare products on Friday, 16 October.

Ms Zunguza was happy to receive the skin products. She said people living with albinism continue to suffer all types of human rights violations.
However, it is encouraging to know that there are people such as Ms Moyane.

“When she made the promise I didn’t trust her because many people make so many empty promises to us.

“I so happy that she is here to give us these products.

“The skincare products are very expensive and most of us cannot afford it, but Ms Moyane became an answer to my prayers. We lack melanin and ended up being highly vulnerable to developing skin cancer. We thank God for her,” concluded Ms Zunguza.
