A father who appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on a rape charge on Monday, 20 October, dithered on the issue of whether he will apply for bail.
According to #IAM, a human rights organisation, the accused withdrew his bail application, changed his mind, but later decided not to go ahead with his application.
The suspect was remanded in custody and will return to court on 12 November for further investigation.
His 14-year-old daughter was allegedly raped.
#IAM said they will continue to monitor the case.
They take a keen interest in proceedings where abuse of any kind took place, regardless of the gender of the person.
A case in point is the death of Mzwakhe ‘Muzi’ Khoza on 27 September.

He was allegedly killed by his girlfriend, Ms Phumelele Precious Mbhele, at his home.
The suspect appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on a murder charge on Monday 19 October.
The organisation opposed the bail application and the magistrate did likewise after incriminating evidence against the suspect was read in court.
She was remanded in custody and will appear again on 19 November.
#IAM said they will be present to represent the silent voice of Muzi.
Mr Louis Thabethe of the organisation visited the offices of the Standerton Advertiser on Friday, 23 October and recounted a third case.
According to him, a young girl was raped after a thieving group in the township near Mahala Park recently went on a rampage.
Sakhile Police, working together with the community, arrested one of the men.
People were robbed of their cell phones and clothes, using a gun, a toy gun and a knife.
Mr Thabethe concluded by saying they will be in court on that day to ensure that there is justice for the victims.
“We will also continue to work with the police to bring the remaining suspects to book.”
