SECUNDA – A gang of robbers broke into a house in Da Gama Street at about 2.30am and robbed a woman of numerous items valued at about R81 000.
According to Capt Gerhard Elmes, spokesman for the Secunda Police, the woman was asleep in her bedroom when she heard movement in the house.
A man suddenly entered her room and she screamed. He shone a torch at the woman and then grabbed her and closed her mouth.
The man was wearing gloves.
Capt Elmes said two other men also entered the room and ordered the woman to keep quiet.
They demanded money and valuables, also forced the woman to open the safe in another room.
An undisclosed amount of Zimbabwean dollars were taken.
The robbers looted cellphones, jewelry, televisions, laptops, tablet phones and before fleeing the scene.
The culprits were wearing balaclavas and spoke broken Zulu.
“Entry to the house was gained from the side sliding door,” said Capt Elmes.
He confirmed that the electric fence was cut during the week to gain entry.
This is now the third incident with the same modus operandi.
Capt Elmes urged residents to daily check their security systems.
“If you find that your electric fence has been tampered with, try not to delay to fix it.”
