Lintle for Youth hosts a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign at Secunda

Lintle for Youth showed support to those fighting cancer

SECUNDA – Lintle for Youth held a breast cancer awareness campaign and celebrated survivors and those who are still fighting cancer on Friday, 30 October at Graceland.

During the event, Ms Marchel Kruger shared about her journey and reminded the youth that they should take care of their bodies and never lose hope in the fight against cancer.

The event was attended by Dr Dina Mosia and Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman who empowered the young girls with wisdom and knowledge.

Lintle for Youth is a non-profit agency which is providing mentoring programs for middle youth in the area.

Ms Lerato Mokoena, director, said “In South Africa the most common cancer is breast cancer, with 2.4 million cases. Breast cancer is also the leading cause of cancer deaths among women with 523,000 deaths. Cervical cancer is the deadliest, with 5,406 deaths recorded last year.”

“That is why we took it upon ourselves to have this event that will remind our loved ones how much we care.

“To also teach the upcoming youth that with cancer age does not matter, they need to be informed, empowered and prepared.”

Lintle for Youth wants to inspire pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and instill a sense of hope in the future, to expand the perspective of young people to make them aware of life’s possibilities.

Its focus is to empower the youth in establishing goals and following through on commitments.

Ms Mokoena believes that an individual is influenced by their support system.

“We want to surround young people in a caring, inclusive learning environment.”

The organisation donated about 200 sanitary pads to Hlalanathi Centre in Extension 18 at eMablenhle.
