HIGHVELD – Good detection work from Lara the K9-cop and her handler, Const Comfort Shikwambana, might lead to a breakthrough in a double murder case.
Lara was able to sniff out a spent cartridge between the mud and muck on the crime scene. This is currently the police’s best lead to apprehend the killer.
Workers on the Kromdraai Farm near Rhino Lodge on the R50 between Leandra and Standerton, found two decomposed corpses near the road on Wednesday afternoon, 28 October.
The bodies were that of two men.
One was on his back and the other on his stomach.
Val Police are in charge of the case and sent the bodies for post mortems to Evander.
The post mortems were done on 3 November and indicated the victims had been shot several times.
Const Shikwambana and Lara were called to the scene on 4 November to search for vital forensic clues that can help with the investigation, such as spent cartridges.
This finding will help to trace the weapon from which the bullet was fired.
