Woman from eMbalenhle loses thousands after cell phone call

The perpetrator claimed to be working for a cell phone service provider.

eMBALENHLE – An eMbalenhle woman was defrauded of R17 000 from her investment at one of the country’s leading banks.

According to the police, the victim received a call and the caller claimed to be working for her cell phone service provider.

She told her that someone was attempting to do a SIM swap and that she must switch off her phone for a few minutes.

It is alleged that the victim did as instructed, but after she switched her phone back on, it could not receive a signal.

The complainant later received an SMS that about R17 000 was withdrawn from her bank account.
