Marnu has an early Christmas surprise

Although overwhelmed at first with the strangers in his garden, young Marnu was assured that this was a special day for him.

SECUNDA – Young Marnu Prinsloo (6) who is currently undergoing chemo and radiation treatment for his central nervous system (CNS), had a huge surprise on Thursday, 3 December, when Christmas came early for him.

Oregon Spur in Secunda Mall, together with His Way Family Church and Hero Print, surprised Marnu with a Christmas tree, Father Christmas and a few gifts.

Mr Armand Riekert, the owner of Spur, Ms Lizelle Riekert and Ms Anzel Riekert had a special super hero cape made for super hero Marnu, who has been extremely brave and strong during his treatment.

Although overwhelmed at first with the strangers in his garden, young Marnu was assured that this was a special day.

With every ripping of wrapping paper around his presents, his face lightened up.

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles and Marnu is that hero and someone to look up to for his bravery and courage,” said Mr Riekert.

Pastor Randal Donnelly from His Way Family Church played Father Christmas.

He said it was an honour to be a part of this special day.

“I really believe that when we are going through difficult times we need to be reminded that we are special, loved and cared for.

“The community is here for him.

“We care for him. We believe in hope and God who is greater than anything we could ever face.

“God is always for Marnu and is his guide and strength,” said Past Donnelly.

Past Donnelly ended with the verse: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13 ESV.

“Father Christmas” came in his sleigh (Scruffy) bearing gifts for Marnu.

Marnu’s journey has deeply touched Mr Peet Scholtz of Hero Print.

“I won’t say “I know how it feels” because everyone reacts differently to their own story, however my family and I saw my eldest brother fight cancer up until 2006.

“I can relate to the difficult times we as a family went through both emotionally and financially,” said Mr Scholtz.

He is thankful towards the community for the love and support they had shown his family during their struggle and therefore wants to be a part of Marnu’s journey.

“We want to give back to those who made us, us,” said Mr Scholtz.

The team who made this day possible consists of (in front) Messrs Peet Scholtz (Hero Print) and Reese Stephenson (Hero Print). At the back are Ms Lizelle Riekert (Oregon Spur), Pastor Randal Donnelly (His Way Family Church) and Mr Joe Schultz (Hero Print).

The morning’s Christmas party ended with a special visit by emergency services such as Delta1 Rescue Diving followed by GTR Towing Services and MavCorp who escorted Secunda’s Christmas sleigh “Scruffy” and Father Christmas.

This made Marnu’s Christmas party even more special.

An account has been opened for Marnu’s medical expenses. Marnu’s mother, Ms Annezell van Rensburg, said an amount of R2.5-million is needed for Marnu to have a bone marrow transplant.

If you would like to make a financial contribution towards this donations can also be made to Mr P Prinsloo, Account Number 1557404877, Capitec Bank, Branch code: 470010.

Marnu (6) is excited for all the gifts he received.

Any form of funding or any ideas to raise funds are most welcome.

There is also a GoFundMe page for Marnu which can be viewed at www.gofundme.com or you can view his Facebook page at Marnu Prinsloo – Fighting the big “C”.

Emergency services such as Delta1 Search and Rescue, MavCorp and GTR towing services were among those who came to give Marnu a Christmas surprise.
