New trucks and TLBs will help GMM curb illegal dumping

The mayor also instructed employees to take care of these vehicles because the municipality will not tolerate negligence.

SECUNDA – Govan Mbeki Municipality’s executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, handed over three TLBs and three compactor trucks for service delivery on the 14 January.

The handover ceremony was held at the municipal auditorium in Secunda.

The mayor also instructed employees to take care of these vehicles because the municipality will not tolerate negligence.

Mr Dan Nhlapo, MMC for Roads and Energy, said the problem with municipal vehicles is that they do not last very long, because employees don’t follow the inspection protocol.

They just operate the vehicles, even if a car or machinery is losing oil.

“We have a problem with those who are supposed to take care of our fleet, because our trucks and machinery are driven until the oil has dried up.

“As a result, the engines ceases due to negligence.

“If our community notices that our resources are being misused, they must report the matter to us, and we will deal with the culprits,” said Mr Nhlapo.

The Govan Mbeki municipality area has a challenge of non-collection of waste by the municipality, but the mayor said the additions to the municipality’s fleet is a second step to curb illegal dumping.
