Injinga Cover My Book Campaign aims at helping underprivileged learners in Breyten

Cover My Books Campaign aims to break the chain of poverty by assisting children who are in need.

Members of Injinga Cover My Books Campaign seek to help underprivileged learners as schools reopen soon.

Messrs Mthandeni Ntshangase, Siyabonga Malaza and Sandile Nhlabathi, founders of the initiative, believe school is the best place for children to be.

“Growing up in a community where, as less fortunate children, we encountered many challenges, such as being unable to afford school essentials like calculators, books and plastic to cover our books, we want to assist learners who share the same disadvantages we did.”

“Teachers would not bother marking or looking at our books if they were not covered.”

He said they were forced to use whatever was available at the time, albeit newspapers, posters from magazines and even grocery plastic bags.

Sometimes it was hard for them to write exams, especially in subjects where they needed a calculator, seeing that they didn’t have the means to afford one.

He added that members of the campaign aim at addressing discrimination and to ensure equality in every facet.

“We want to make learning easy by providing school essentials.”

Mr Ntshangase pleaded with the community to donate of scientific calculators, which will help learners in subjects such as mathematics, physical sciences and accounting.

“We will be grateful for any help from the community to supply the necessary tools and to give learners a reason to strive for the future.”
