Andries Lee dedicates his life to saving others

Mr Andries Lee, search and rescue diver, has dedicated his life to save others.
In the unfortunate event of a drowning, he has also committed his knowledge and experience to recover the bodies.
Mr Lee’s first job was that of a security officer and at the time he earned a meagre salary, but gained valuable experience which in turn gave him insight into the field he is in today.
He joined the police and eventually became a diver and a bomb technician.
His break-through moment in life was when he began working in the specialised explosives unit (bomb squad).
“It was hard and training was intense, but I adapted quickly,” he said.
When vacancies were open for divers to go on course, Mr Lee without hesitation applied and was approved.
He described the training to be the most difficult thing he had ever participated in.
Divers have to be very fit because of the mental and physical strain the body has to endure.
Once he qualified, he worked as a diver for the police for 10 years.
He resigned thereafter and began working in the public sector.
Due to his love for diving and helping the community, he opened his own non-profitable company, Delta 1 Rescue Diving, in 2018.
It was founded by him, with Sgt Jacobus Nagel and Mr Blackie Swart as co-directors.
“My company assists the police, seeing that there is not a lot of divers in Mpumalanga.”
