The reservoir levels were at less than 25% on 3 February and was still dropping.

The Chief Albert Luthuli municipal raw water supply pipeline to the Carolina Water Treatment Works was damaged by recent heavy rain, which led to imminent water interruptions in Carolina.

The reservoir levels were at less than 25% on 3 February and was still dropping.

As such the municipality were forced to control the water pressure and supply to the community so that they could save drinkable water.

The service provider was on site, but due to bad weather and high volumes of water because of water runoff, they could not begin with repairs.

The municipality therefore implemented interim alternatives to boost water to the water treatment works.

The municipality could also not pump at Mpuluzi due to a broken raw water abstraction pump which subsequently will affect Dundonald and Mayflower.

A municipal teams is also looking into the matter.

High Laying areas were unfortunate as they either had low water pressure or no water at all.

Furthermore, at Eerstehoek Water Treatment Works, the municipality implemented water rationing in order to supply water to certain areas.

For those who were without water, the municipality sent out water trucks as a temporary solution until a clear pump is delivered and installed.
