Municipality will deliver service in Kinross

Residents are unhappy.

KINROSS – After residents complained about the state of Kinross, the municipality plans to fix things up.

Kinross residents complained about the state of the roads in Kinross, the grass that is not being cut, street lights not working, blocked drains and no water supply.

According to Mr Donald Green, acting head of communication at Govan Mbeki Municipality, the department for biodiversity and open spaces at Govan Mbeki Municipality will still tend to Kinross to cut the grass. He said the recent rain has contributed to the rapid growth of the grass.

He also said there will be a road rehabilitation project that will begin soon in the Kinross area.

“We experienced challenges with the Voortrekker Street-outlet blockage due to illegal dumping,” said Mr Green about the blocked drains in Kinross.

“High mast lights maintenance is among the issues that the municipality is looking at.

“The municipality is trying its best with the limited resource to attend to issues of service delivery in all three its regions.”

Residents said Kinross has been on and off without water for the past five years, and not only in the last few years since Govan Mbeki Municipality fell behind in paying their account with Rand Water.

“During this time, the municipality has given us multiple reasons as to why we do not have water, none of those were correct,” said a resident.

“The real issues only surfaced in the last three months since our direct engagement with the municipality’s technical service department begun. The problem is insufficient water inflow into the Thistle Grove reservoir due to excessive uncontrolled water use by surrounding businesses before the water reaches the Thistle Grove reservoir, as well as excessive water leaks left unrepaired for years despite residents having reported them,” said the resident.

“This problem was now exacerbated by the throttling of Rand Water over the last year or so.”

Residents also feel that the Ward councillor in the area is not coming to the party.

“We can see that the councillor reads our messages, but fails to respond or give any feedback,” said the resident.
