Youth group in Leandra has plans to uplift their community
Mr Serota said they have projects for schools in the future, where they will assist in teaching and learning, specifically to those who cannot afford tertiary education.
LEANDRA – Helping Hand Foundation decided to clean the Leandra Police Station as an act of ploughing back into the community.
This organisation was founded by Leandra youth with a purpose of changing lives in the area.
“We began this organisation because of the situation that we are in at our township, we feel that we are neglected by our government and our local municipality.
“We are living in a filthy environment, our township’s youth swims on drugs and our police station is like an old and unused building with long grass.
“We want our police station to bring hope to us and the community. We feel the police are degraded by the environment in which they work,” said Mr Johannes Serota, founder of the organisation.
Mr Serota said they have projects for schools in the future, where they will assist in teaching and learning, specifically to those who cannot afford tertiary education.
“We want to change people’s mindset about Leandra, because when you are saying you come from our township, people think that you are using Nyaope (drugs).
“We want to reduce unemployment by creating projects that will be fully funded. That is why we are still looking for funders to develop our community. We saw a need to stand up and do something for us other than crying to government,” said Mr Serota.
