Healthcare workers sang songs of solidarity and protested outside Mediclinic Ermelo on 30 March.

Mediclinic Southern Africa confirmed that protest action occurred outside Mediclinic Ermelo.

“The engagement was arranged by a union due to disciplinary action against an individual staff member,” Mediclinic Southern Africa said in a media statement.

They also alluded to the fact that the internal process has not yet been completed.

According to Mediclinic Southern Africa the individual in question has a scheduled appeal hearing on 31 March.

“Mediclinic was previously approached by the union to conclude a recognition agreement, but because of the union’s representative levels, they do not qualify for such recognition,” Mediclinic Southern Africa said.

Mediclinic offered to meet with them to understand their concerns better.

Mediclinic Southern Africa said they encourage staff involved to utilise all the available HR-channels to address their concerns, to ensure that they are dealt with in a fair manner.

“We cannot comment further on the matter as we await the outcome of the pending appeal hearing,” Mediclinic Southern Africa concluded.
