Govan Mbeki Municipality receives 18 500 litres of fuel from Sasol

Municipality is thankful for donation.

SECUNDA – Sasol donated 18 500 litres of fuel to Govan Mbeki Municipality on Monday, 29 March.

Ms Sizakele Masilela of Sasol’s communications department, said Sasol donated the fuel to support the municipality in service delivery during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The fuel tanker arrived at the fire station on Monday, 29 March, and a small event was held during the handover with a handful of Sasol’s management team and government officials, including the municipality’s executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma.

Ms Mashudu Ndou, head of community affairs at Sasol, said in her address that Sasol has a healthy partnership with Government.

“It has been a year since the lockdown was announced and Covid-19 and the lockdown were new to all of us. It is not only the municipality’s issue, but it is our issue as well,” said Ms Ndou.

“The donated fuel is aimed at helping the municipality to optimise its services to the communities as the pandemic continues.

“These services include water provision, waste management, emergency services, and the transportation of essential needs to communities.”

Ms Ndou said they decided now was the right time to donate the fuel as South Africa is entering the third wave of the pandemic.

She urged people to remain indoors as far as possible, to keep on sanitising and to wear their masks.

Sasol has been supporting its fenceline communities since the announcement of the national lockdown last year as part of the government’s efforts to contain the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The mayor thanked Sasol for the donation.

“What is happening here today is history in the making,” said Mr Zuma.
