Sadtu protest in front of circuit offices of Department of Education in Standerton
The fact that Standerton is divided into two circuits, Lekwa East and Lekwa West, was one of the issues that could be established.
Protesters gathered at the circuit office of the Department of Education, Standerton on Wednesday, 31 March to air their grievances.
The smallish group gathered momentum as more teachers arrived and placards were handed out.
Ms Mbali Luthuli from the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) was using a microphone and led the singing.
The gist of the proceedings could not be followed due to language barriers, but it could be ascertained that the circuit manager, Ms Yasmeen Mohamed, is at the centre of the dissatisfaction.
The fact that Standerton is divided into two circuits, Lekwa East and Lekwa West, was one of the issues that could be established.
The Standerton Advertiser managed to get a telephone number for Ms Luthuli on Wednesday, but the subscriber was unavailable the same day and the following day.
Ms Mohamed however, said on Thursday, 1 April that she is not allowed to speak to the media and referred the newspaper to the provincial spokesman of the department, Mr Jasper Zwane. A message was left for Mr Zwane, followed by an e-mail on 1 April.
