Elderly benefit from charity drive in eMbalenhle

The charity drive which was held on Saturday, August 14, saw different speakers, traditional leaders and about 25 Thuthuzela and stakeholders attend the day's event.

A charity drive, which was hosted by Evander Magistrate’s Court’s Ms Thembisile Msibi, the director of Women Navigating the Future Network, co-partner of Makoti Life and Style and a member of Pearls of the great worth, had seen rewarding results where the elderly from the eMbalenhle Old Age Home, Nomkhubulwane Culture Group and the Nyaope Brothers were recipients of parcels.

Ms Msibi had chosen this specific charity drive and its recipients, as part of her being nominated for the South African Heroines Award for 2021.

The charity drive which was held on Saturday, August 14, saw different speakers, traditional leaders and about 25 Thuthuzela and stakeholders attend the day’s event.

There was also a special guest appearance by Miss SA Teen finalist 2021, Ms Zekhethelo Zondi, who sent a message of support to the young women of the Nomkhubulwane Cultural Group.

“She reminded the girls that it is not only about being virgins but being beautiful and how you can use beauty to work to one’s advantage but positively,” said Ms Msibi.

Mrs South Africa Semi finalist 2021, Mr Nzuza from St Antony Child and Youth Care Center, in KZN and Mam Nomagugu the leader of Virginity Society in KZN, also attended the day’s event.

Ms Msibi said that the day’s event was also attended by Ms Caroline Mosiamo who is the founder and President of the South African Heroines Awards.

“I am extremely happy with how the days event went. It was a good day for all,” said Ms Msibi.

Ms Msibi said Ms Mosiamo had already given her feedback and was impressed with how the response was from the community with regards to this charity drive.

“Even though there was worry about me being the only nominee in our area, Ms Mosiamo was very happy and impressed and acknowledge the support I received from the stakeholder.

“She could see that we worked together and we do have people with skills and support from each other,” said Ms Msibi.

She had mentioned that the South African Heroines have “adopted” the eMbalenhle Old Age Home and will be giving them their support for one year.

Ms Msibi will be making her way to Bloemfontein on August 28 to attend the awards ceremony for the South African Heroines Award.

Ms Msibi was originally nominated in the category for Heroine in Young Girls and Women Empowerment category, however, since her charity drive, she has been nominated for an additional three awards being the Heroine in Community Development, Heroine in Legal Space and Heroine in Public and Private Sector.

She has now made her way to the top 50.
