Star-gazer from Standerton gives his take on life

Cedric closely follows the work done by the Swedish environmental activist, Greta Thunberg, who is known for taking on world leaders about climate change.

A young man from Standerton, equipped with a B.Com degree and working as a sales consultant, is an amateur star-gazer and an amateur wine connoisseur.

Mr Cedric Mlotshwa also has strong beliefs about preserving the environment and characteristics his ideal woman should have.

“I may be a Millennial, but am rather old-fashioned,” Cedric said.

“I am a helpless and hopeless romantic.”

To begin at the beginning, he is the only son in a family with four daughters.

His mother, a Zulu married to a Sotho, used to tell a bedtime story to her ‘laatlammetjie’.

“I told the doctor that we don’t need to know the gender of the baby,” his mother said.

Standerton Primary School, Highveld Park High School in Secunda and Hoërskool Standerton shaped and taught him the necessary before he went off to Johannesburg.

Cedric majored at the South African School of Motion Pictures in Auckland Park in 2016 in management operations and took on a second major in marketing and sales.

He is of the opinion that Standerton has relative strong educational systems and could be a place for children to grow up in.

The former principal of SHS, Mr Hennie Pretorius, instilled in the learners in their last year the importance of finding your own identity.

There is a ‘but’ to it however, as regards to staying in town.

“What’s happening in this town is deplorable,” Cedric added.

“Standerton has to be cleaned up and awareness raised about the Vaal River pollution and fossil fuels.”

He strongly argued that the time has come to rally up as a group of people to protect our habitat for future generations to come.

Cedric closely follows the work done by the Swedish environmental activist, Greta Thunberg, who is known for taking on world leaders about climate change.

He goes to the Catholic St Francis of Assisi in Standerton for spiritual guidance.

“It takes a lot of guts to share your secrets in the confessional booth.”

Music-wise, his taste is first and foremost classical composers such as Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Schubert, opera, then incorporating rock, gospel, some RNB, good old pop and country music.

“I have a guitar, but not have had time yet to master playing it.“

A full moon undoubtedly sets his imagination free, wishing the savings can accommodate that telescope.

Cedric has contacted a local radio station in the past about an object that kept on moving across the sky.

He saw something interesting in the Kosmospark-sky on August 24.

“So tonight, as I was coming from work, I saw three streaks of lights fly across the sky.

“When they appeared, they split into three tail-looking lights, until one of them flew by faster and then the other two followed in hot pursuit for a good 10 to 15 seconds.

“It was the most beautiful phenomenon I’ve ever seen.

“Everything is so magical and much, much more than what we were taught in science class.”

His ideal woman should be a Christian, kind, independent, with respect for herself and others, as well as intelligent.

“Looks are a bonus,” he commented.

Any wedding on a boat would be a big no-no since he is scared of water, despite born under the star sign Pisces,

“I have watched Titanic and Jaws too many times.”

Cedric remembers to this day his first experience when diving into a swimming pool.

“I came up, grasped for air and realised I can’t swim.”

This individual also loves everything old and vintage, with style and character.

It could definitely involve a myriad of interests.

“I prefer to do my own thing,” he summarised.
