Teen from eMbalenhle wins award for dress made from Ridge Times newspapers

“My future plan is to become Miss South Africa and Miss Universe, because I think I can make it.”

Sibahle Mngomezulu (16) was crowned the first princess and won the Best Dress Award for U/16 at the Miss Louis Vuitton Africa Awards 2021 held at Evander Club on Saturday, September 4.

This Grade 10 learner at Osizweni Secondary School, said participants were told to make a dress with recyclable materials.

That is why she and her mother, Ms Sindy Mngomezulu, decided to use Ridge Times newspapers for her dress.

“It took us two days to complete the dress because we were bringing different ideas together. It was not an easy task, ” explained Sibahle.

Sibahle Mngomezulu wears the dress she made out of Ridge Times newspapers which led to her win a Louis Vuitton award.

“My mother encouraged me and said I will make it far in the competition as long as I put more effort into designing the dress. The aim of the competition is not only to win an award, but to also pave a way for my future.

“My future plan is to become Miss South Africa and Miss Universe, because I think that I can make it,” said Sibahle.

She wants to encourage young people not to give up on their dreams because some people tried to discourage her from entering the competition.

She believes her supportive mother is the reason why she won these awards.
