VOOMA Vaccination campaign have started

Premier and the MEC's were withdrawn from the campaign, there's no more community mobilisation but vaccination continue at the stadium.

The presidential VOOMA vaccination campaign kick started at Risko Fakude Stadium in eMbalenhle on Friday, October 1.
President Cyril Ramaphosa launched Vooma Vaccination Weekend campaign to encourage more South Africans to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

The president urged religious, community leaders and taxi operators to support the campaign.

Mpumalanga premier, Ms Refilwe Mtsweni Tsipane, all her MECs and executive mayor were expected to visit vaccination sites and mobilise the Govan Mbeki community to come and vaccinate at Risko Fakude Stadium, but because of the weather, it was decided that the program be scaled down.

This is according to Mr George Mthethwa, the spokesman in the premier’s office.

“The premier and the MECs were withdrawn from the campaign and there was no more community mobilisation but the vaccination continued at the stadium.

“We encourage community members to use this opportunity to vaccinate to protect themselves against the Covid-19 virus and they must know that vaccines are safe,” said Mr Mthethwa.

Some community members came to the stadium to receive their jabs.

“I’m happy to receive my first jab of vaccine, I thought it was painful but now I can tell others that it is not.

“I was also one of those who didn’t want to vaccinate but I change my mind later that it is important to vaccinate because of Covid-19 that kills people,” said Ms Nomsa Sibanda, a community member.

Health workers also conducted door to door vaccinations at eMbalenhle accompanied by the Govan Mbeki executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma and Mr Muzi Chirwa, Gert Sibande District mayor.
