Grootdraai Dam dropped from 74,5% to 73,5%.
The Department of Water and Sanitation issued a report on Wednesday, October 6 about the dam level at Grootdraai Dam which fell, while the rest of dams in the Gert Sibande District improved.
Grootdraai Dam dropped from 74,5% to 73,5%.
According to the report, the listed dams in the district experienced a positive week.
Their weekly state of reservoirs as on October 4 shows that all the listed dams, with the one exception, recorded increases in water volumes over the week.
Nooitgedacht Dam increased from 93,6% to 94,7%, Vygeboom from 88,1% to 93,2%, Jericho from 72,6% to 76,1%, Westoe from 49,5% to 49,6%, Morgenstond from 80,7% to 81,5% and Heyshope from 83,6% to 84,2%.
The improvement contributed to the increase in the water levels in the Inkomati-Usuthu water management area, which recorded an improvement from 84,6% to 85,0%.
This is in contrast to the provincial situation which continues to drop as the average dam levels dropped from 77,1% to 76,9% and the Olifants water management area also dropped from 70,4% to 69,8%.
The department reminded the community that South Africa is a water-scarce country and encouraged the wise, sparing and conservative use of available water.
The public was encouraged to prevent wastage and loss of water by fixing and reporting leaks as the country cannot afford to lose even a single drop of water.
