Shoppers choose Mama Julie as one of Secunda’s heroes
Bring your old school bag to Secunda Mall.
As part of Secunda Mall’s latest project, Proudly Paying Your Bill Campaign, that was launched in August, the mall management team recently visited Ms Julie de la Guerre’s farm outside Kinross.
They gave her a donation of R5 000 as the community chose her as one of Secunda’s Heroes.
Ms De la Guerre, better known as Mama Julie, takes care of 27 children in need between the ages of three and 17.
She only gets an income from two houses on the farm that she rents out and from a few churches that help out when they can and a few shop owners in Evander, Kinross sponsor food that is due for expiry.
Ms De la Guerre is very involved in the community of eMbalenhle and even has a church there.
She also shares her food donations with the elderly in eMbalenhle.
She gets bread sponsored from Albany Bakery weekly.
Ms De la Guerre is currently in need of school bags for the children as well as a dentist who can pull a tooth or do a check up on one of the children every few months.
The manager of Secunda Mall, Ms Michelle Nell, said shoppers can drop their old school bags off at the office or sponsor a school bag that will be distributed where needed.
Secunda Mall’s project, Proudly Paying Your Bill Campaign, ended on October 24 and the lucky draw will take place on October 30.
Famous singer, Refentse will do the lucky draw.
Secunda Mall management team, tenants and shoppers will also celebrate the mall’s birthday on the day of the lucky draw.
