Ms Chemondré Prinsloo (25), the new social worker at Tutela Family Care Secunda, is excited about the new chapter of her life in Secunda.
She recently moved to Secunda from Cape Town where she finished her studies at the University of the Western Cape.
She did a social auxiliary work course at Hugenote College in Wellington after she finished school and this was a stepping stone for her to study towards her Bachelors degree in social work.
Ms Prinsloo saw the advertisement for a job at Tutela on Facebook and applied a day before the closing date.
“I sent my CV to a few places and the Secunda office contacted me and asked if I am prepared to move so far away from home,” said Ms Prinsloo.
She decided to take on the challenge as she just completed her practical work at schools in Bellville and Mitchells Plain and was ready to pursue this career.
She said social work is something that gives her happiness and a kind of satisfaction.
As she grew up in Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape, she has always had a soft spot to help others, although at that stage it was not clear what her career path would be.
She debated on different kinds of career paths including becoming a nurse, a social worker or working in human resources.
She said the importance of charity work was already displayed in the family she grew up with.
“All of us just needs one reason to love any kind of work and that reason for me was my mother,” said Ms Prinsloo.
“I learnt from her and I want to be like her.
“I have seen her feeding beggars and the poor, who were unable to provide for themselves.
“Nobody ever went away hungry from our door.
“Seeing all these things as a child, inspired me and I want to live my dream out in my career as a social worker.”
Ms Prinsloo is thankful for her parents who made her understand from a young age that if she can help anybody in any way, she would be blessed.
“Not everybody has the courage to help or give something, but you can either offer water to a stranger during the hot summer months, or feed the hungry.
“Sometimes, people desperately needs help and if you can be the helping hand for them, they get to experience the love of God and can feel like God sent someone to help them.
“I have seen, such happiness cannot be expressed in words and that is why I chose this career.”
Ms Prinsloo and her family went through a difficult time since last year and this year when she lost four family members, including her mother, to death.
In her free time, she loves reading to broaden her understanding and knowledge, or to paint or spend some time in nature.
