Help Buthlebethu Foundation to continue feeding the destitute

It is also a very important food source for children and for the elderly and the frail.

Providing meals to more than 140 people weekly is taking strain on the Buhlebethu Foundation Centre, situated in Ext 25 in Afghanistan, Kinross.

Caregivers are calling on the community and businesses to help support their foundation.

The Buhlebethu Foundation Centre “Our Beauty” is an afterschool care facility for children and orphans between the ages of three to 15 years.

It is also a very important food source for children and the elderly and the frail.

Currently, the foundation feeds 89 children and 51 senior citizens.

The elderly are fed twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday) and the children are fed five days of the week (Monday to Friday).

Because Buhlebethu Foundation Centre is an NPO that solely relies on funding and donations of food to provide cooked meals to those that need it.

Many of the recipients are dependent on these meals and in most cases, these are the only meals they have.

Mr Lucky Thusi, who is a caregiver for the foundation said: “Our vision is to uplift socio-economic conditions for all and to better the lives of those who are affected and infected by HIV, TB and Covid-19.

“We contribute towards eradication of poverty, the homeless, the disabled, orphans and needy people.”

The Buhlebethu Foundation Centre is a registered organisation issued with a certificate in 2013 after they began the project in June 2012.

“Our organisation has survived on donations from retail stores, bakeries, churches and businesses around GMM,” said Mr Thusi.

He said that since Covid-19 had hit the country, many donors have pulled out and stopped all supplies due to a struggling economy.

The foundation depended on these suppliers for food, clothes, school uniforms and money that went towards transport and buying of supplies.

“As we now approach Christmas, we are pleading with the community and businesses to help us with food, clothes for children and the elderly, or any form of financial aid so that we can continue to help those who desperately need it,” said Mr Thusi.

If you want to make donations of food or money, phone Mr Thusi on 082 093 2200 or 072 551 1706 or 079 238 8418.

Mr Thusi thanked all his suppliers who have continuously supported the foundation throughout the years.
