BCMF fights against water hyacinth in the Bronkhorstspruit Dam
“The catchment forum is always working on the sources of pollution in the catchment which runs parallel to the rehab plans being developed.”
The Bronkhorstspruit Catchment Management Forum (BCMF) held an information session at the Bronkhorstbaai Restaurant and Pub, Eden 2 Venue on Tuesday, December 28, which aimed to provide information on their activities in the catchment.
The morning began with a background sketch and the achievements of the Bronkhorstspruit Catchment Management Forum from Ms Cara Stokes, the current chairperson of the forum.
The BCMF is a non-profit organisation that was first formed in August 2017 due to deteriorating quality of the dam.
Mr Paddy Waller who has been appointment by the forum, discussed the information on the Bronkies Integrated Hyacinth plan and the monthly monitoring of the Victor Khanye wastewater treatment works’ emergency repairs, which are currently behind schedule.
The last presentation showed the stakeholders the basis of the Bronkhorstspruit River Master Wetland plan provided by Mr Gary Bing, a civil engineer and a member of the Wetland technical task committee.
About 20 stakeholders from around the catchment joined the information morning sponsored by Bronkhorstbaai Restaurant and Pub.
Ms Stokes said:“The day was a success and well attended.
“This morning aimed at providing information on the various projects in place, some which include plans to develop a wetland at the inlet of the Bronkies River at the Nature Reserve. We know this is not the so-called silver bullet but certainly a step in the right direction to the long term plan of rehabilitating the catchment and the dam.”
