Lions Club of Standerton once again comes to the party

The tradition of the Christmas lunch dates back to a period of more than 30 years.

The Lions Club of Standerton did not disappoint the community and managed to hold their Christmas lunch for the elderly, albeit belatedly.

The dining room at Cosmos Retirement Village was festively decorated on Sunday, January 9 at noon for the event.

Lions President, Mr Donovan Henri, was accompanied by Messrs Malcolm Johnston and Tim Cochrane, the latter a resident of the old age home.

Mr Cochrane welcomed everybody and explained the delay, due to Covid-19 restrictions, at the end of last year.

After the prayer, guests enjoyed the starter of tuna fish mousse, refreshments were on hand and given to each and every guest.

Mr Henri gave a short speech and said the club believes in giving back to the community.

The tradition of the Christmas lunch spans a period of more than 30 years.

Heads were also bowed in silence in acknowledgement of those friends who passed away in 2020 and 2021.

Roast lamb, roast chicken and vegetables were on the menu, followed by a dessert of ice cream with chocolate sauce and malva pudding.

The kitchen staff, responsible for the meal, were properly thanked.

One of the acting managers, Ms Sanpat Coetzee, circulated among the guests as well, thanking the Lions afterwards for the gesture.

Guests were invited to sign the Lions’ visitors book at the end of the meal.
