Mr John Mahlangu went to Independent Electoral Commission offices in Pretoria to fight his forceful removal from the Govan Mbeki Municipality council meeting as the Azanian Residents Party PR councillor on Thursday, January 6.
Mr Mahlangu said he went to the Pretoria IEC offices to find out if they are aware of the incident.
“I found that the IEC headquarters is only in possession of the letter from the secretary whom we expelled, and not the letter which we had written.
“I want to know how the IEC operates because the ARP ground forces submitted a letter to suspend our general secretary on November 22. That secretary then submitted a letter on November 25 that states I am to be replaced in council.
“The IEC preferred to take secretary’s side and did what he wanted. I am the president of the party and that PR seat does not belong to an individual, but to a party that must decide whom they want to occupy it,” said Mr Mahlangu.
“We submitted all the required documents to the IEC and we are waiting for the response because as from last week, we elected the new top six, including national chairperson,” said Mr Mahlangu.
Ridge Times contacted Mr Phillip Mahlangu, alleged to be expelled as ARP general secretary, for comment but he never answered his cellphone while the other one was off.
Mpumalanga IEC spokesperson, Mr Thanduxolo Chembeni, said they will respond once they are done with facts findings on the matter.
