The new year did not bring new solutions for motorists.
By the looks of it, it will still be years until Govan Mbeki Municipality would be able to afford it to fix potholes.
The roads in most of the towns in the Govan Mbeki municipal area are in bad state because of potholes.
Bethal and Trichardt are probably at the top of the list with the worst roads or most potholes.
The Ridge Times reported on this issue in December last year and Govan Mbeki Municipality’s mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, then said the municipality does not have the equipment to do road construction.
He also said it will take time to fix the potholes.
According to him it will take an enormous budget and a couple of years to do maintenance of the roads.
Govan Mbeki Municipality has partnered with Gert Sibande District Municipality to resurface all the tarred roads, however, this process will also take years.
However, the municipality is looking at solutions to re-tar some of the roads as soon as possible.
The municipality also requested money from different institutions on a national level.
In the mean time, motorists will have to take caution when driving to miss all the potholes.
