Animal care centre to open soon in Standerton

He emphasised however, that the centre is not focusing on abused and underfed animals in Standerton.

Northern Light Foundation (NLF) recently held a meeting in preparation for the opening of a NLF-animal care centre in Standerton.

During the meeting, several discussions were held regarding the care and development of the centre.

A committee was established that will assist with its management, consisting of Ms Monique van der Westhuizen, Ms Karin Ferreira, Ms Riana Labuschagne, Ms Veronica Joubert, Ms Belinda

Dreyer, Ms Elsabé Jordaan, Mr Nico Jordaan, Ms Nicolene Kasselman, Ms Alida Podges and Mr Michael Podges.

According to Mr Hillel Coetzer from the NLF, their funds are limited and they are beginning on a small scale.

“We have identified the need for a centre to be used by the community,” Mr Coetzer said.

He emphasised however, that the centre is not focusing on abused and underfed animals.

NLF thanked every person willing to serve on the committee and making a difference.

The centre will be at Kromdraai Kennels in Standerton and the opening is scheduled for March 6.

The kennels are located at 7 Tambourini Street, Stanfield Hill.

According to the Facebook-page of the NLF, two dogs and one kitten are already being cared for.

“We need dog food, as well as Royal Canin Kitten-milk,” the post read.

Donations can be dropped off at 95 Coligny Street, Standerton or Kromdraai Kennels.

The SPCA that used to be in the industrial area in Standerton, has closed down.

Mr Coetzer concluded by saying someone is always available at the kennels for animals to be dropped off.
