eMbalenhle Police arrest young woman for Baninzi’s murder
According to Const Mthethwa, police managed to arrest the suspect on Friday, February 11, with the help of the community.
Portia Vilakazi (25) was arrested by the the eMbalenhle Police last week in connection with the murder of Mbulelo Baninzi (44), whose body was discovered at the Marikana informal settlement in Ext 16, eMbalenhle on Tuesday, February 1.
According to the police, the deceased was stabbed in his neck and a knife was found next to his body.
Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesperson, said community members informed the police about the incident.
When the police arrived on the scene, they found the door locked and when they looked inside the shack through an open window, they saw the body of a naked man.
The police then forced open the door.
Nombulelo Mgqalelo, the sister of the deceased, told the newspaper that on Monday night, January 31, her brother returned from a nearby tavern with a woman on his arm.
She said he greeted all of his neighbours because that was his way to let them know that he was at home.
Police said they were notified by his friends about his tragic death.
His friends went to check on him at his shack on the Tuesday morning and found that the door was locked, but the window was open and when they checked inside, they saw their friend on the floor with bloodstains on his body.
They then notified the police.
According to Const Mthethwa, police managed to arrest the suspect on Friday, February 11, with the help of the community.
Vilakazi appeared before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, February 16 and her case was postponed to Tuesday, February 22 for formal bail application.
