Water levels at Grootdraai Dam in Standerton drop slightly

The department called on the public to continue conserving water by using the available water wisely and sparingly.

Mpumalanga recorded a slight drop on average in the listed dams over the past week.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) weekly state of reservoirs report of February 23, shows that the average water levels dropped from 93,0% to 92,9%.

Water levels in the Water Management Areas (WMA) remained unchanged, with the Olifants at 81,9% and the Inkomati-Usuthu at 98,4%.

Heyshope Dam is the only listed dam that remained unchanged in the Gert Sibande District, recording 100,3%.

Dams dropping in water volumes include Grootdraai Dam from 102,0% to 101,0%, Nooitgedacht from 92,5% to 90,8% and Jericho from 99,9% to 99,6%.

On the upward trend, Vygeboom increased from 99,8% to 100,6%, Westoe from 98,4% to 98,7% and Morgenstond from 98,8% to 99,3%.

The department called on the public to continue conserving water by using the available water wisely and sparingly, considering that the rainy season is coming to an end in most parts of the country.

They also reminded everybody that South Africa is a water-scarce country and responsible actions and behaviour play a major role in reliable water supply and water security.
