Streeknuus journalist receives award from Tshwane Sports Confederation

One of Streeknuus’ journalist, Zeldine Fourie, was nominated for the Sports Journalist of the Year and at the end of the evening walked away with the winning trophy in this category.

In what was a prestigious, glamorous and honourable awards evening, one of Streeknuus’ journalists managed to walk away with an award.

The Tshwane Sports Confederation hosted the Tshwane Women in Sports Awards at Future Africa at the University of Pretoria on February 16.

The evening was held in celebration of the remarkable achievements and unmatched potential of women and girls in sport during the period of August 1, 2020 up to August 31 last year, all of whom have made remarkable contributions to both the development, and encouragements of women and girls participation in sport.

The event took place in the aftermath of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics Games, the second addition of the Tshwane Sports Confederation Women in Sports Awards as sanctioned by the Gauteng Sports Confederation and City of Tshwane.

According to a spokesperson for the Tshwane Sports Confederation, women in Tshwane play a leading and critical role within sports federations, NGO’s and NPO’s on all levels.

“We, through these awards, salute our women and girls for their endless, selfless and dedicated will to change the mindset of our community and South Africans at large, ensuring social inclusion and social integration, stability, progress, and long-term development of our nation, through sport. We are grateful for their commitment, said Winston Meyer, President of the Tshwane Sports Confederation.

Streeknuus’ Zeldine Fourie was nominated for the Sports Journalist of the Year and at the end of the evening walked away with the trophy.

“I was pleasantly surprised and so humbled and grateful to be nominated alongside Hloni Mtimkulu who has been an eNCA reporter for several years. I honour and respect her for the years she fought to become whom she is.

“I would also like to thank the Gauteng North Figure Skating Federation for nominating me and allowing me to represent them in Streeknuus,” Zeldine said.

“To my family and friends who believed in me and continue to speak life over me, I appreciate you,” Zeldine concluded.

Streeknuus congratulates Zeldine on her prestigious award.

“You make us proud,” said editor Wilma van Vuuren.
