Water levels at Grootdraai Dam at 101.4%

South Africa is a water-scarce country and water has no substitute.

Mpumalanga’s water levels recorded a slight increase.

According to the department of water and sanitation (DWS) state of reservoirs report of March 7, the average water in storage in the listed dams slightly increased by 0,1% from last week’s 93,1% to 93,2%.

The catchment areas also recorded a 0,1% increases with the Olifants water management area (WMA) increasing from 81,7% to 81,8% and the Inkomati-Usuthu (WMA) increasing from 98,7% to 98,8%.

The Gert Sibande District showed mixed results, with Westoe and Morgenstond dams recording declines in water volumes, from 99,% to 99,6% and from 99,7% to 99,5% respectively. Grootdraai and Vygeboom dams remained unchanged at 101,4% and 100,6% respectively.

On the positive, Nooitgedacht Dam increased from 92,6% to 95,3%, Jericho from 99,9% to 100,2%, and Heyshope from 100,5% to 100,7%.

The department reminded the public to use available water wisely and sparingly in National Water Month, to protect the water resources from pollution.
