Animal Shelter in Standerton is up and running

“We would like to expand the capacity to help more animals, but need the community’s help,” NLF said.

Northern Light Foundation (NLF) held the official launch of its Animal Shelter on March 5.

The shelter is managed in collaboration with Kromdraai Kennels Standerton, on their premises.

A colouring-in competition for children, between the ages of three and 10 years, was also held at the launch, with more than 30 children participating

Zimoné Swart, Mia Janse van Rensburg and Conrie Roets were the winners.

The community donated a bakkie-load full of dog and cat food and Light Riders and Lone Buddy motorcycle clubs assisted.

NLF said their purpose is to help animals, who live on the streets, and do not have a home.

The community was requested to drop off animals at the shelter.

They will ensure that this remains the main goal and that it does not become a place where owners, who no longer want their animals, drop off unwanted animals.

Strict processes and procedures were put in place.

The shelter currently can accommodate about four dogs and 10 cats and is already full.

“We would like to expand the capacity to help more animals, but need the community’s help,” NLF said.

Any donations in the form of building material or money can be made to them.

Their banking details are First National Bank, cheque account number 629 014 05763.

Anyone interested in adopting the animals, can visit the shelter during business hours.

“These types of projects can only be a success if the community become involved and take ownership to ensure that animals, who are no longer cared for, can be looked after,” Hillel Coetzer, CEO, said.

“A special thank you to all our members, community members, local businesses and other organisations who are helping to make this project a success.”
