Grootdraai Dam drops from 102,3% to 101,8%

In the Gert Sibande District, Grootdraai and Morgenstond dams recorded declines in water volumes, dropping from 102,3% to 101,8% and 100,0% to 98,4% respectively.

Mpumalanga’s water levels are stable.

According to the Department of Water and Sanitation’ s reservoir report dated March 21, the average water levels in storage in the listed dams in Mpumalanga are stable at 93,2% as last week.

This is also higher than the levels recorded during the same period last year when the levels stood at 88,3%.

The report shows that levels in the water management areas slightly improved, with the Olifants increasing from 81,5% to 81,7% and the Inkomati-Usuthu recording an increase from 98,5% to 98,6%.

In the Gert Sibande District, Grootdraai and Morgenstond dams recorded declines in water volumes, dropping from 102,3% to 101,8% and 100,0% to 98,4% respectively.

On the upward trend, Nooitgedacht increased from 92,9% to 94,3%, Vygeboom from 100,6% to 100,9%, Jericho from 100,3% to 100,6%, Westoe from 99,4% to 99,8% and Heyshope from 100,3% to 100,4%.

The department reminded the public to conserve and use water wisely as South Africa is a water-scarce country.

They also called on the public to protect water resources and prevent their pollution as pollution negatively affects water quality.
