Gender-based Violence campaign yields positive results

A tip-off came from the community concerning an illegal tavern, which is believe to be one of the specific generators of gender-based related violence.

A gender-based violence awareness campaign was conducted in Refilwe, Ext 9.

The Tshwane-Cullinan Police, sector managers, the communication officer, the Victim Friendly Room and other members conducted an awareness campaign against gender-based violence on Friday, April 22.

According to Sgt Connie Moganedi, communication officer for the Cullinan Police, a group of community members were gathered in Refilwe and sensitised about the negative impact of gender-based violence.

A tip-off came from the community concerning an illegal tavern, which is believe to be one of the specific generators of gender-based related violence.

The police then continued their preliminary investigation, which in turn led to the successful arrest of a 39-year-old suspect.

The man was arrested in terms of the contravention of section 127(a) Gauteng Liquor Act 2 of 2003.

Liquor to the value of an estimated R4 000 was confiscated during the operation.

The team is thanked for their efforts and good results following the successful arrest of an illegal tavern owner. The team were also encouraged to continue to eliminate all gender-based violence crime related generators in the community.
