DA launches clean up action in Trichardt
Municipality will hopefully give attention to Trichardt's condition.
Residents took hands with the DA who initiated a clean up action on the corner of Vincent Tshabalala and Richter Street in Trichardt on Monday, May 2.
Ciska Jordaan, DA councillor, initiated this action as this corner had become an illegal dumping place.
“Residents have been complaining about this dump for quite some time now,” said Jordaan.
“Despite numerous complaints to the waste department and by-law enforcement unit, the municipality has failed for months now to do something about this issue.”
Jordaan said the rubbish was too much for them to remove in one day and that building rubble, personal refuse and what looks like business refuse are being dumped in heaps at this location.
They resolved to seek out a TLB to clean up the rubbish they could not.
Jordaan expressed thanks to the community who helped and said she is proud of what they have achieved.
“The community showed up with their gloves and shovels, a lot of energy and positivity,” said Jordaan.
According to her, the municipality will pick up the bags left and the Deputy Director of Community Services indicated that he will request the municipality to attend to cleaning up Trichardt following the municipality’s clean up campaigns in eMbalenhle and Bethal.
