Sasol invests in upcoming farmers and charity organisations

Fuel giant recognises charity organisations and upcoming farmers.

Sasol recently held an event to recognise 99 emerging farmers in the Gert Sibande District.

They also handed over a cheque to the Topsy Foundation and Ithemba Lesizwe.

Topsy is Sasol’s implementing partner of the orphans and vulnerable children care and support programme in the Dipaleseng and Govan Mbeki municipal areas.

Ithemba Lesizwe is responsible for the implementation of a support group programme for rehabilitated substance addicts in the area.

The 99 farmers recently completed the Sasol farmers development programme (Iphepe).

Sasol also recognised 30 people from 10 non-profit organisations from the Lekwa muinicipal area who took part in the Sasol Institution Capacity Building programme.

This programme has capacitated 86 non-profit organisations in the Govan Mbeki municipal area as well as 10 in the Lekwa municipal area focusing mainly on early childhood development centres.

Mashudu Ndou, vice president and head of Community Affairs at Sasol, said: “It is when I get involved in social initiatives that empower, enable and recognise people that I have a sense of fulfillment that is immeasurable.

“This is why I work for Sasol.”

Sasol’s Media and Communications manager, Nomia Machebe, said as a corporate citizen, Sasol believes that skills development is an enabler for economic inclusion and growth.

“The complementary need for a skilled workforce around our operations and the needs of our local fence-line communities for access to socio-economic opportunities, especially in the context of rising unemployment rates continues to foster our passion to contribute to an enabling environment for to gain lifelong skills that allow them to take part actively in economy,” said Machebe.

Ndou said Sasol’s social investment activities are aligned to the sustainable development goals 8 and 10 priorities while responding to local realities with investments prioritised in its fence-line communities.
