Artist from Bronkhorstspruit paints abstract art

Local artist paints either from photographs or from memory.

Loraine Yaffe is a local contemporary South African fine arts painter from Bronkhorstspruit.

She has been creating art as far back as she can remember.

Her favourite medium is oil on canvas.

She endeavours to paint on a daily basis.

Yaffe mostly photographs her own subject material, something she would like to hang on her own home walls.

In order to improve her painting skills, Yaffe has meticulously painted all 10 of the top 10 most famous and well-known paintings with copyright permitting.

Some of her favourite artists are Michelangelo, Backhuizen and Sorollla.

“I don’t concentrate on one subject, but on scenes or images which are appealing to me,” she explained.

Yaffe has dabbled in many forms of art, including pyrography, acrylic painting, oil pastels, graphite, tokreen (powertex) and mixed media, but prefers oil painting, by far.

She creates both realistic as well as abstract art.

She loves painting in blues and browns.

Yaffe’s love for art can be attributed to her late parents who, during her childhood, were nearly always busy with some form of art.

“My father, Morris, was a photographer, developing and printing his own photographs during the black and white period.

“My mother, Annatjie, was everything from a clothes designer and crafter, through to a cake secorator and just about everything in between,” she said about her creative parents who installed a passion for art in her.

She loves taking on commissions seeing that she believes in every face there is a story to be told.
