Mini-sub burns in Standerton’s mid-town

Corné Stoltz, councillor from the Freedom Front Plus, commented that a supply line for a transformer had to be established.

Part of mid-town’s electricity was affected on Friday, July 1 when a mini-sub burned.

The Lekwa Municipality issued an urgent notice to residents about the incident at the intersection of Coligny Street and Joubert Street.

According to Lekwa, Van Backström Street was isolated.

Standerton Police Station, a business, Pick n Pay and the lower part of town were affected.

Lekwa indicated that a team attended to it.

A video on a WhatsApp-group did the rounds shortly thereafter, in which a local showed that no one was on site.

The resident ruefully asked when the electricity will be on again.

Corné Stoltz, councillor from the Freedom Front Plus, commented that a supply line for a transformer had to be established.

He also said that councillors may not get involved with administrative and operational decisions.

No time-frame was given for power to be restored.
