Fugitive and alleged drug trader from Bethal-case remanded in custody by Cape Town court

She was one four accused in a drug dealing case who were granted bail by the Bethal Regional Court.

Fugitive and alleged drug trader, Rudi Angy Kishuka (25), a Congolese national, was remanded in custody by the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 11, after the Cape Town-based Flying Squad and

Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested her on Sunday, July 10, on a warrant of arrest as per Bethal Court for dealing in drugs.

Kishuka is allegedly one of the 11 suspects who were arrested by the Secunda Hawks-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation on June 28, 2021, during a take-down operation on the ‘Dream On’ major project in Bethal.

She was one of the four accused who were granted bail by the Bethal Regional Court. She only attended court twice and evaded court since.

A warrant for her arrest was issued on April 28, by the same court.

The Secunda Hawks and Secunda Crime Intelligence received information that Kishuka was in Cape Town.

The investigating team and Secunda Crime Intelligence liaised with their counterparts in Cape Town who then traced her.

Kishuka was cornered while trying to escape from her hiding place in Gateway Delft.

Kishuka was arrested, detained and taken to Belville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 11, where she was remanded in custody.

The case was transferred to Bethal Magistrate’s Court on July 18.

Meanwhile, another fugitive, Mbuso Janvier Kikaranga (35), also a Congolese national, is expected to appear before the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on July 14, for a formal bail application.

A warrant of arrest was issued after Kikaranga escaped during the take-down operation on June 28, 2021. Ten others also were arrested.

The team followed up on information on his whereabouts and Kikaranga was traced and arrested at his hiding place in eMbalenhle on Monday, June 20.

He was nabbed by the Hawks-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation for three counts of possession and dealing in drugs and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle which was stolen from Harrismith in June this year.

Kikaranga appeared before the court the same day and was remanded in custody.

He then appeared in court on July 4, where the matter was postponed to July 14, for a formal bail application.

The other accused who are on bail are expected to appear before the Bethal Regional Court on August 2, alongside another four whose bail applications were abandoned for further investigation. They are Chibuzo Chicozie Ogbunkwu `Don` (36), Okeene Valentine Okwudiri (36), Kadima Remy (30), Male Mkolo (34), Mukembani Justin Kasindo (35), Rudi Angy Kishore (25), Bongiwe Manengela (42), Enewere David (35) and Mwambaza Hamisa (32).

David Chicoloko (27), who is one of the accused, was not part of the investigation (ADHOC) but was arrested for illegal immigration.

Chicoloko was found guilty and sentenced to a fine of R1 500 or three months imprisonment.

He was further ordered to be deported to his country of origin on July 9, 2021.

Maj-Gen Zodwa Mokoena, the provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, hailed the investigation team for the commendable effort and further applauded the collaboration with counterparts in ensuring that alleged criminals are brought back to book.
