Accident claims lives of two Bethal Correctional Services men

BETHAL – Messages of condolences streamed in on social media when Bethal residents came to learn of the tragic accident that claimed the lives of two well-known residents Edwin Bruce and Jacques (Kaki) Roelofse.
The two men succumbed to their injuries in a single motor vehicle accident about 10km on the Halfgewonnen Road, near Bethal, at about 15:00, on Monday, October 17.
Constable Thomas Mogadime, spokesperson for Bethal Police, said it is alleged that the vehicle had overturned when the driver lost control.

All role players were summoned to the scene and a paramedic from ER24 certified both men deceased. They were taken to Bethal government mortuary by forensic pathologist Nomkhozi Nkumane.
Both men worked at the Bethal Correctional Service. Bruce began his duties at the Correctional Service on December 1, 1986, and dedicated 35 years to this service.
While Roelofse had been working at the Correctional Services since March 17, 1993, and would serve for 29 years.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of Bruce and Roelofse during this difficult time and we pray that they find peace, comfort and strength,” said Dominic Zulu, Acting Area Commissioner of Bethal Management Area.
