Standerton Police and security companies work together to arrest 11 suspects
10 men and one woman found with items used for house breakings.
The Standerton Police arrested 11 suspects aged between 25 and 48 for the possession of suspected house break-in implements, unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The suspects, consisting of nine South African men, one Malawian man and one South African woman, were found in Meyerville in Standerton on Thursday, October 20.
The police received information about the suspects and the police, together with private security companies, followed up and the security forces headed to the house on Thursday night and searched the house.
The police confiscated two vehicles, suspected to be used for crime, a firearm with six live rounds of ammunition and suspected house break-in implements such as a crowbar, an iron rod, a corrugated iron cutter, a side cutter and 16 cellphones from the house.
Hand gloves, a set of overalls and construction reflector jackets were also found in the suspects’ possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicles belong to the suspects, but it was seized for further investigation.
The 11 suspects will appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 24.
Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges and the Contravening of Immigration Act for the foreign national.
The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieut.-Gen. Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has credited the collaborative effort displayed by the police and private security companies in disrupting one of the high-priority crimes and further commended the whistle-blower for providing positive information.
